Muscles, Tissues and the Sea of Life

Course Description:
A comprehensive therapy always involves a very thorough and yet rounded approach to treatment. This workshop is intended to tie together the different relations between muscles and tissues: their function, their structure and their reliance on living fluid. Theories of acupuncture channels, physiology, joint mobilizations, taping, fascial work, and mechano receptors are brought together to show the importance of each technique individually, and in concert. Concepts and techniques will demonstrate the importance of a detailed and wholistic approach to therapy.

The afternoon will combine the theory into a practical approach. Application of specific joint mobilizations of the spine and sacral iliac joint will be demonstrated. Fascial techniques that focus on specific binding regions and open the flow of fluid will be practiced. Techniques that will increase local metabolism and dynamically change the functions of the tissues will include cupping massage, far infrared technology, and gua sha. Taping will be demonstrated and practiced to help keep tissues and fluid moving into healthy channels and patterns. Indications and contraindications of techniques will help bring the combined techniques into a package the therapist can walk away with and immediately apply to their practice.

Body In Motion

Course Description:
In this one day practical course you will learn a full body treatment using motions such as passive movements, rhythmic mobilizations, oscillations, gentle fascial work and light stretching. It is partially based on the classic “general osteopathic treatment.” The purpose of which is to assist the body in recruiting its own healing potential. It is very supportive for those who are ill, in chronic pain, or desire a “wellness treatment.” Adaptable to many types of clients while also being easy both on them and on the therapist!

While addressing general well-being, this approach has the ability to become focused and detailed when dealing with specific impairments encountered during treatment because of its unique ability to both assess and treat. Further, when treating a specific impairment we often overlook the whole network of compensatory actions that the whole body takes on. And often, when we treat specifically we forget to re-integrate the part back into the whole. Overcoming these is the purpose of putting the body in motion.

Much of the benefit comes from improving fluid movement (arterial, venous, lymph, axonal) throughout the body by addressing the fascial network through motion, and from addressing the “Thoracic Pump” – the respiratory system via the ribs and its musculoskeletal elements. This and other benefits will be discussed throughout the day.
